The Ministry of Labour & Employment has directed all States/UTs to discontinue filing the ER-II Return, which was used to capture the occupational and educational pattern of employees in India.

Background: An Expert Group was constituted to review DGET’s publications. In its meeting held on 23rd April, 2015, the group reviewed the ‘Occupational-Educational Pattern of Employees in India’ report — prepared on the basis of ER-II returns submitted by States/UTs — and recommended its discontinuation, citing the availability of equivalent NSSO data.

Action Required: All Directors/Commissioners of Employment are requested to:

  • Direct all concerned officers under the Employment Directorate in their state to stop submitting ER-II returns with immediate effect
