The Government of Puducherry’s Labour Department, has introduced a single\/common registration system<\/strong>\u00a0for shops and establishments under the OSH Code, 2020, thereby eliminating the need for a separate registration under the older Puducherry Shops and Establishments Act, 1964.<\/p>\n

Purpose & Intent<\/strong>\u200b<\/span>
\nThe Government of Puducherry aims to improve\u00a0ease of doing business<\/strong>\u00a0by reducing the compliance burden on existing and new enterprises through rationalized regulatory practices.<\/p>\n

Core Decision<\/strong>\u200b<\/span>
\nAll shops and establishments registered under the\u00a0Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions (OSH) Code, 2020<\/strong>\u00a0are hereby\u00a0exempted from registration under Section 7<\/strong>\u00a0and from all provisions of the Puducherry Shops and Establishments Act, 1964 \u2014 effectively replacing dual registration with a single registration.<\/p>\n

Conditions of the Exemption<\/h3>\n

Establishments availing this exemption must satisfy the following:\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. \n

    Full OSH compliance<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 Employers must comply with all duties relating to occupational safety, health, working conditions, hours of work, welfare provisions, and maintenance of registers, records, and returns under the OSH Code, 2020.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    No retrospective effect<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 Any actions or proceedings already initiated under the Puducherry Shops and Establishments Act, 1964 prior to this notification remain unaffected.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    Effective date<\/strong> \u2014 15-03-2026<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
