Part 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Labour codes likely to be fully operational from April 1, govt to pre-publish draft rules soon<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The government has announced that the four landmark labour codes will be <strong>fully operational from April 1, 2026<\/strong> with draft rules to be pre-published soon for public consultation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s changing<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The new regime brings together four major codes: Code on Wages, 2019, Industrial Relations Code, 2020, Code on Social Security, 2020 and Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020, replacing 29 existing labour laws.<\/li>\n<li>The government will issue draft rules soon, followed by a <strong>45 days public consultation window<\/strong> before final notification, a step required for operationalisation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Under the new framework:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Working hours remain <strong>8 hours\/day<\/strong>, with provision for <strong>overtime<\/strong>.<br \/>\n\u2022 Mandatory <strong>appointment letters<\/strong> for workers.<br \/>\n\u2022 <strong>Free health check-ups<\/strong> for workers above 40 age years.<br \/>\n\u2022 Provisions like <strong>equal pay for equal work<\/strong> and <strong>equal opportunity for women<\/strong>, including for shift work.<br \/>\n\u2022 A major push for social security, the government targets extending coverage to <strong>100 crore workers<\/strong> by March 2026 (from 94 crore earlier).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why this matters<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The new labour codes aim to modernise India\u2019s labour-regulatory framework simplifying compliance, reducing fragmentation, and making laws more future-ready for evolving employment patterns (gig economy, contract labour, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>For businesses: streamlined regulations, fewer overlapping laws, clarity in compliance and more flexibility in workforce management.<\/li>\n<li>For workers: enhanced protections, better social security, transparent working conditions, and improved benefits, especially for informal, gig or contract workers historically outside the coverage net.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What to do now<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monitor release of draft rules (expected soon).<\/li>\n<li>Employers should start reviewing their HR policies to align with new codes (appointment letters, overtime policies, worker benefits, health check-ups, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>Workers and labour-rights groups should keep an eye on the public consultation period to provide feedback.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/economy\/policy\/labour-codes-likely-to-be-fully-operational-from-april-1-govt-to-pre-publish-draft-rules-soon\/articleshow\/125738907.cms?from=mdr\"><strong>Source<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Labour codes likely to be fully operational from April 1, govt to pre-publish draft rules soon &nbsp;
